Jerusalem spotlight: Sites and Landmarks
The Armenian Quarter is the most enigmatic and secluded section of the Old City. The legacy of Armenian Christians in Jerusalem is as long as that of Armenian Christianity itself; by the time Armenia was declared a Christian state, Armenians were making regular pilgrimages to the Holy City.

The Cardo, the colonnaded Roman-style street that was the main avenue of Aeolia Capitolina, the Roman city built atop the rubble of Jerusalem in the wake of the failure of the Great Revolt in 70 CE. remains impressive, and these days, you can entertain yourself with shopping.

Visitors wanting a raw whiff of Middle Eastern life have only to walk 10 minutes from the city center up Agrippas Street to Machane Yehuda. Lining its aisles, are stands, shops and small restaurants, offering a dizzying array of goods ranging from cleaning supplies to still wriggling fish.
