Jerusalem's community of young Anglos (a catch-all Hebrew term for English-speakers from Canada to New Zealand and everywhere in between, not merely the English themselves) may be a proportionately small part of Jerusalem's 700,000 residents, but they are undeniably one of the city's most visible groups. Perhaps it's because they've claimed some of Jerusalem's most thriving shopping and restaurant districts as their own (Ben Yehuda, Emek Refraim), or perhaps it's because they tend to travel in packs; whatever the reason, the Anglos are everywhere. And like every immigrant community in any city, they have their regular hangouts, among them Emek Refaim's Tal Bagels. A New York bagel institution, Tal Bagels decided to bring the light of New York Jewish soul food to the bagel-parched Israeli desert, and it's been a resounding success. Bagels, at 3 NIS a pop, come in onion, sesame, poppy seed, herb or cinnamon varieties, with a choice of various shmears and sandwich fixings. Nosh on one with a coffee and catch up on the latest Jerusalem Anglo gossip. Tal also delivers and caters. Search Jerusalemite City Guide
