New Deli (City Center)

Restaurants Fast Food A Jerusalemite Pick Hillel St. 33 City Center/Mamilla 1-700-700-788 Sunday to Thursday, 12:00 to 3:00; Saturday motzaei Shabbat to 3:00
$ (under 40 NIS per person) Kosher/Mehadrin Deliveries available

New Deli's decidedly old-school deli character (old school despite its young age) is welcome in the Jerusalem scene. In the land where the pita reigns as undisputed king, it's comforting for some people to know they can still find a place that serves enormous stacks of deli meat on good, old-fashioned Western bread. And that's pretty much what you'll find at New Deli – a healthy selection of kosher meats in the glass case at the counter where you order, primed to satisfy carnivores and threaten vegetarians.

The restaurant is wildly popular with the American yeshiva crowd, noted consumers of large quantities of meat. And for those tourists and expats heartbroken by the often soggy, half-cooked, uninspiring nature of French fries in the Holy Land, New Deli serves up an excellent basket of home fries.

not such a huge deli fan - and truth be told I prefer burger's bar -but they're good for convenience. esp after a night of hitting the bars

New deli gets a huge pat on the back for their American quality franks. Where else in J-m could I go for a good mid-night hotdog with mustard and relish? And for under 15 NIS too?!
Their deli is not too bad either, although you must brave the swarms of American Yeshiva and midrahsa students in order to get inside..

good sandwich sizes, even if the meat isn't the best. their fries are great, and if, like most israelis, you like trying to fit as many sauces as possible on your sandwiches, this is a good place to try. beware, though, their whole wheat bread is smaller than a standard baguette. why are you trying to eat healthy their anyway?

The cold cuts available in Israel aren't of the highest quality, and most Jerusalem deli sandwich joints emphasize salads and bread crispiness over heaping on the meat. But New Deli is a good middle ground. It's not like going to Rubin's back in Brookline, but it will somewhat satisfy your deli jones. The veal burgers are formidable, the prices are decent, and the delivery is reliable.
