Bloomfield Science Museum

Museums A Jerusalemite Pick Hebrew University, Givat Ram 02-654-4888 www.mada.org.il/english Monday to Thursday 10:00 to 18:00; Friday 10:00 to 14:00; Saturday 10:00 to 15:00

Jerusalem is undeniably a city of faith, where the lives of many are dictated by ancient decree and dogma. But given its status as a modern capital, a temple to the Lord on every corner isn't enough for Jerusalem – and thus was erected the Bloomfield Science Museum, the Holy City's only temple to science.

So committed are the staff of the museum to the dissemination of scientific knowledge that they trumpet on their website that "the museum's heart is its exhibitions of interactive exhibits." Science has saved us from polio and taken us to the moon, but the tautology still threatens human civilization as we know it.

The museum is especially child-friendly, with its vaunted interactive exhibits explaining everything from the principles of construction and architecture (the charmingly-titled “Why Don't Buildings Fall Down?") to a look into man's probable future with "House on Mars."

Accompanying adults, however, stand to learn a few things as well. In addition to its interactive exhibits, the museum offers classes to teach young and old the miracles of science.

Admission: Adults - 28 NIS, Children 5 or older - 18 NIS, Soldiers, Disabled, Students - 18 NIS, Seniors - 14 NIS
