Jerusalem is not a city particularly suited to the late-night crowd – Jerusalemites tend to turn in for the night pretty early, and unlike its more cosmopolitan sister Tel Aviv, by 1 or 2 in the morning, Jerusalem could be aptly described as a ghost town. This quirk in the city's character means that even the nighttime oases, like the aptly named Bezalel Street cafe Nocturno, close up shop at a very responsible half past midnight. Serving as both a daytime and nighttime gathering place for a young, hip crowd from the surrounding neighborhoods of Nachlaot and Rechavia, Nocturno advertises its slightly counter-cultural status with the graffiti that thickly adorns the cement columns outside the restaurant. But beyond the artwork and the slightly later hours, it's a normal cafe, serving light dairy meals (sandwiches, salads, pastas), coffee, tea, and various shakes which can, of course, be enhanced by the alcohol of your choosing.
