On the surface, Canela appears a lot like other Shlomtzion restaurants: Softly lit and well-appointed, a bit on the pricey side, appeals to a young and trendy crowd, and offers upscale fusion cuisine with Israeli flair... but there's something a little off. Canela is kosher. And what a kosher restaurant.

Don't let the fact that it's known by some as an Israeli-style pick-up bar scare you. This bar is one of the few places where mid-twenty-somethings to mid-thirty-somethings can enjoy drinks without the "pozot" or attitudes so often associated with some of the trendier Jerusalem hangouts.

The Cardo, the colonnaded Roman-style street that was the main avenue of Aeolia Capitolina, the Roman city built atop the rubble of Jerusalem in the wake of the failure of the Great Revolt in 70 CE. remains impressive, and these days, you can entertain yourself with shopping.
