Partying Like the Persians at Beit Avi Chai

Popular music, Festivals, Other, Parties A Jerusalemite Pick Beit Avi Chai King George St. 44 City Center/Mamilla 02-623-7000 www.bac.org.il September 18 2008 20:30 40 NIS; 20 NIS students

With its doors closed to all carrying Israeli passports (unless of course they belong to the anti-Zionist Neturei Karta party), Iran remains closed off to most Jerusalem residents, a large percent of whom can trace their roots to the former Persian Empire. This Thursday night (Sept. 18), Beit Avi Chai takes advantage of Jerusalem's balmy evenings to host a Persian party in its courtyard. The event will recreate the alleys of Yezad and the markets of Ispahan alongside the synagogues of Tehran. Musicians will be playing traditional Iranian music, while mourning the absence of the late actor Chaim Banai(is there such a thing as a non-famous Banai?) who was supposed to play a part in the evening's festivities.
