Avishai Cohen and TriveniJazz, Popular music A Jerusalemite Pick Yellow Submarine HaRechavim St. 13 Talpiot 02-679-4040 www.yellowsubmarine.org.il July 14 2008 22:00 70 NIS
Internationally respected jazz trumpeter Avishai Cohen pretty much has a mullet going on (and a soul patch too), but somehow a pair of objectively poor grooming decisions work out alright when combined with the pinstripes and effortless cool of a true jazzbo. Triveni, the Sanskrit word for "the place where three rivers meet," is, appropriately enough, the name of Cohen's new trio, featuring Omer Avital on the bass and Nasheet Waits on the tubs. Without a piano laying down chords, harmony and expectations, the boys in Triveni freely bounce between hard bop, hard funk and the avant-garde. Don't miss your chance to see a true Israeli jazz original.
