Instead, why not check out the Jerusalem Film Festival, now celebrating its 25th year. The Festival kicks off at Sultan's Pool with a screening of Pixar's new Wall-E film and lasts for nine days with screenings at a number of Jerusalem locations. In keeping with its tradition of brining Hollywood luminaries to the holy city, this year's Festival will be presenting achievement awards to producer Mike Medavoy (whose contributions to cinema include Annie Hall, Apocalypse Now, and Raging Bull), legendary actor John Gavin Malkovich and director Michael Winterbottom (A Mighty Heart and Twenty-Four Hour Party People among others). Festival highlights include opener Wall-E, Exodus (the classic film's first Israeli screening in years), and Sean Penn's Into the Wild. A number of Indian films will be showcased as well, in keeping with this country's obsession with all things Indian. While the majority of the films will be screened at the Cinematheque, there will be screenings at Sultan's Pool, Beit Shmuel, the Begin Center and Lev Smadar as well. Ticket prices drop if you buy tickets to over three movies then drop again if you're a real movie buff and buy tickets to 8 separate screenings. The opening even is 50 NIS and children's events are 30 NIS. A complete schedule can be found on the Festival website.
