The songs you know. The plot you know. The habits you know, the Nazis you know, the beatific face of Julie Andrews...you know. No, there's not much about the Sound of Music that could surprise anybody at this point - except for the fact that this is an Israeli production, which means that some of the Catholic nuns and the poor deprived (and very gentile) singing Austrian silver-spoon children to whom she becomes mentor and mother are played by Israeli Jewish actors (and some by pinch-hitting American and European actors). And saying you've seen the Sound of Music in Israel should be worth at least five minutes of dinner table conversation.
