Saturday Night Fever: A Series of Concerts at Beit Avi Chai

Popular music A Jerusalemite Pick Beit Avi Chai King George St. 44 City Center/Mamilla 02-623-7000 www.bac.org.il June 07 2008 - June 28 2008 22:30 50 NIS per concert; 30 NIS Students

Beit Avi Chai's Saturday night concert series continues in June, with four new concerts from up-and-coming artists. This month's theme is 'Capturing the New,' in honor of the Shavuot holiday and its new fruits theme. (Not that these artists are fruity. They're sultry and funky and cool. Okay. Maybe Ari Gorli is a little fruity. But just a little). Jerusalem resident and hip-hop celebrity Sha'anan Streett, founder and lead singer of Hadag Nachash (Snakefish), is the series' Artistic Director and a large part of the program's draw.

The series opens on June 7, with Hoodska Explosive, a group so new, they can barely be found on Google. On June 14, artist Kutiman (who does he think he is? Prince?) gathers an all-star cast, including members of the bands Hadag Nachash and FunkeNstein for an evening of funky grooves. On June 21 its hip-hop artist and producer Roi Edri with Ethiopian-Israeli superstar Aiiala Ingdsht for a night of funk, soul and R&B.

The series closes on June 28 with an intimate set by Ari Gorli whose single Hakol Dvash (Its all Honey) can be heard caressing the turn tables daily on Galgalatz.
