0-60 in 18 Days: The 2008 JNF Car rallyFestivals, Other A Jerusalemite Pick Safra Square (Kikar Safra) 1 Safra Square City Center/Mamilla www.jerusalem.muni.il June 04 2008 13:00 Free
Twenty-five very expensive cars owned by apparently 25 very wealthy people took off from London on May 18 and began a 2,500-mile journey to Israel via land, sea and air through such countries as France, Switzerland, Italy and Greece and will end their journey in Jerusalem on June 4, just in time to celebrate the ending of 40th year of Jerusalem’s reunification festivities and Israel's 60th anniversary. The rally, now in its seventh year, is sponsored by the Jewish National Fund (JNF) and hopes to raise approximately $500,000 for the development of the Negev.
The cars include several Porsches, a rare 1942 Cadillac, a 1963 Ginetta, at least one Maserati and many other vehicles with an estimated combined worth of 30 million NIS ($9 million). The entourage includes two young Brits who were given the honor of driving a 1948 Rolls Royce Silver Wraith (also turning 60) and will be making aliyah upon their arrival in Israel. Car enthusiasts or those just interested in being Israeli and asking the drivers how much their cars cost are welcome to see the vehicles on display at Safra Square on June 4 at 13:00.
