Rock band Beit Habubot ("Dollhouse"), who rocketed to fame in 2005 and snagged Band of the Year and Breakthrough of the Year awards from Israel's premier music network, took a curiously Israeli route to the top. Instead of working through normal music industry channels, the boys behind Beit Habubot, Amir Etias and Itay Shiff, recorded a demo immediately after getting out of the IDF then jetted off on the traditional Israeli post-army trip to the wilds of South America. They passed the demo along to other Israelis they met along the road, and soon those few songs became an underground sensation, traded from Israeli traveler to Israeli traveler from the mountains of Peru to the beaches of Goa and in every place young Israelis visited in between. When Etias and Shiff returned to Israel, they were primed to be stars - with platinum record sales as testament.
