Smadar celebrates 80 years of art house cinemaby harry • April 09 2008
Things to do
The Smadar theater, yet another proud bastion of the ever dwindling secular Jerusalem is celebrating 80 years of cinematical service. The theater, founded in 1928 by a German architect, has been a screening room from everything from westerns to swashbuckling films to French cinema. These days the theater is owned by a mega chain, but the theater still screens movies that you won't likely find in the myriad of Jerusalem multiplexes (if you can even call them that).
These days the real draw to Smadar is the cafe and bar. Yes, you can bring that beer into the theater with you.
